Devon Care HomeSundial Care Home has a kitchen team like no other, a family that cooks for over 30 family members every single day. Not only do they make every meal to each family members preference and taste, but also to the highest visual and nutritional standard.

Exemplifying this, they recently won a four-figure prize for winning an inter-group catering competition by displaying their excellent culinary prowess.

The leadership team at Sundial Care Home are always trying to find new ways to inspire and drive excellence within the teams, driving higher standards to benefit all the Sundial family.

They competed against other care and nursing homes who are supported by the Evolve Care Group and was adjudicated by an independent panel from Evolve. As all the home’s entries were of such a high standard the panel generously decided to give the full award £1000 to all the entrants.

The Entry…

Sundial’s kitchen team prepared mouth-watering stuffed Mushrooms and a homely Chicken & Stuffing Pie which Head Chef Patrick explained is: “A favourite any day!”

The nomination was completed with a gorgeous profiterole cake, coated in a healthy layer of chocolate, and supporting a crown of strawberries, profiteroles, and white biscuit fingers.

The competition, that opened in August, was judged on the criteria of team working, cleanliness of kitchen, display of culinary expertise and feedback on the dish prepared by the home’s family members.

“Absolutely Thrilled”

Head Chef Patrick described the emotional joy he experienced finding out the results. “We were absolutely shocked and thrilled,” he said. Patrick is planning to use the winnings to invest into the kitchen to further enhance the already high standards of dining at Sundial Care Home.

“We’re going to get new kitchen equipment to keep us producing such quality food,” he said.
Patrick, who has been at Sundial for just under two years enjoys the unity and togetherness of the team at the home. “My favourite thing working in sundial is that everyone is like a close family,” he said.
